The Situation
When the low voltage cabling plan is not implemented correctly, the course the whole design path is based on, is flawed. A bad design and installation results in a low voltage cabling system that fails minimum testing criteria, poor data network performance, and downtime. We were engaged early in the design process, but a corporate decision resulted in hiring another low voltage cable installer to do the work. The CAT cabling was not installed correctly, resulting in testing failures of epic proportions.

The Solution
We were consulted post-installation to provide a 3rd party assessment and Fluke Networks testing of the low voltage cabling system. In addition to confusing category 6e with category 6a, poor workmanship, disregard for BICSI standards, damaged CAT cables, bad terminations, and insufficient testing methods resulted in a network cabling system with a failure rate of over 40% in our initial testing. Our strategic thinking and our BICSI certified RCDD engineering meant they did not have to completely re-cable. We expertly reworked the existing CAT cabling and reduced the failure rate to near 0% with our Fluke Networks DSX-5000, which allowed them to replace just a few CAT 6a cables.
