Project Overview
Johnson & Johnson DePuy Synthes, a global leader in medical device manufacturing, engaged the team at Wired to implement a comprehensive cabling solution across four unique environments within their facility. We deployed Siemon Premium 6 copper cabling and XGLO fiber, both backed by a 25-year warranty, to ensure optimal data transmission and network reliability.
The Challenges
The project installation presented unique challenges, as the facility houses four distinct environments, each with its own requirements and obstacles.
Office Environment:
This area featured a standard office setup with open or drop ceilings. The goal was to seamlessly integrate the cabling without disrupting the professional, clean atmosphere. The team successfully navigated the space, ensuring that the cabling conformed to the office's aesthetic and cultural expectations.Manufacturing Area:
The manufacturing environment was characterized by high ceilings and tight spaces, requiring careful planning to avoid disrupting production. The team worked closely with supervisors to displace employees and cordon off a 20-foot safety zone around lifts, per Johnson & Johnson’s strict safety protocols. Maneuvering around multi-million-dollar machinery required precision and coordination to ensure uninterrupted operations.Cleanrooms:
Cleanrooms demanded the highest level of care, as they require sterilization of both personnel and equipment. The Wired team adhered to strict gowning protocols and meticulously cleaned all materials before entering the space. Installation was a challenge, requiring careful planning to ensure that all cabling was pre-cleaned and ready for immediate installation, minimizing disruptions to the sterilized environment.Research/Design and Testing Areas:
In the R&D sections, FDA testing and product development were ongoing, with data being collected via Wired Communications’ cabling infrastructure. Testing, which can last up to six months, could not be interrupted without voiding results. The team exercised extreme caution when handling cables in these areas, ensuring that the integrity of ongoing tests was preserved. Thorough planning ensured that any necessary moves, additions, or changes were executed without disrupting sensitive testing procedures.
Our Solution
The team at Wired executed the installation across all four environments with minimal downtime, adapting to each area's unique requirements while maintaining the integrity of Johnson & Johnson's operations. In total, we managed 15 different telecommunications rooms, each housing between hundreds to over a thousand cables. Our expertise in handling moves, adds, and changes (MAC) ensured that the cabling infrastructure was scalable and adaptable to future needs.
Client Results
We achieved seamless integration of a cutting-edge cabling system across diverse environments.
Production and testing continued uninterrupted during installation, ensuring business continuity.
Our work was fully compliant with Johnson & Johnson’s strict safety and sterilization protocols.
The infrastructure is future-proof and backed by Siemon's 25-year warranties for copper and fiber cabling.
